RACCOON WOOL
Our raccoon wool styles are crafted from the ultra-soft underfur of raccoons. Responsibly sourced from raccoons living in farm environments, the fibres are collected humanely during the moulting season through gentle combing before the summer heat.
Raccoon wool is known for its fluffy texture, unique softness, and lightweight warmth.
We source our raccoon wool from the same trusted supplier we’ve collaborated with for
more than a decade now, to whom animal welfare and quality products go hand in hand.
Our raccoon styles have become a signature material in our collections and as raccoon is mainly used in mixtures with other fabrics, you rarely find other pieces in pure raccoon wool than the ones from Six Ames.

Raccoon wool is a rare and luxurious fiber known for its exceptional softness, lightweight warmth, and natural fluffiness. It offers a plush texture that rivals the finest natural fibers. Its insulating properties provide gentle warmth without added bulk, making it ideal for lightweight garments that retain heat. The unique structure of raccoon wool fibers contributes to their softness and airy feel, creating a cozy yet breathable fabric.
Care
Raccoon wool resists odours and releases moisture naturally, so it doesn’t need to be washed often. Airing it out is usually enough to maintain its quality. If you choose to wash it, follow the care instructions to keep its softness and shape over time.
Raccoon wool can be gently hand washed garments in cold water with a fluid detergent made for silk/wool. The fabric will naturally become softer and fluffier with washings.
Never place raccoon in the dryer or wring the fabric but keep in mind it can shrink up to 5% even when handled carefully instead lay it flat to dry on a towel to help preserve its shape.
Do not iron raccoon wool. To remove creases and enhance its natural fluffiness, lightly steam from a distance, keeping the steamer away from direct contact with the fibers.
Store raccoon wool folded in a drawer or on a shelf, away from direct sunlight. Do not hang, as this can cause stretching and distort the shape.
Pilling may occur naturally with wear, and some colours pill more than others. Gently remove any excess pilling with a sweater comb.
